How to convert PDF to JPG

Choosing the right DPI

DPI decides how many pixels each page is rendered at, and the right value depends entirely on destination. 72 DPI produces small files sized for screens - fine for a quick preview or a thumbnail. 150 DPI is the sweet spot for most uses: sharp on screen, reasonable to email, readable when embedded in a slide or document. 300 DPI is print resolution - an A4 page becomes roughly a 2480 x 3508 pixel image - choose it when the image will be printed or when small text must stay razor sharp, and expect files several times larger. The quality slider then controls JPG compression on top of that.

Why convert pages to images at all

Because images go where PDFs cannot: into a PowerPoint slide, an email body (not attachment), a chat message that previews inline, a web page, or a social post. Converting is also the standard trick when a recipient's software mangles PDFs, and a deliberate choice when you want the content to be visually frozen - an image cannot have its text quietly edited. Limitations to know

A page rendered to JPG is a picture: text is no longer selectable, searchable, or accessible to screen readers - if you need the text itself, use PDF to Word instead. JPG also has no transparency and slightly softens sharp text edges at lower quality settings; for diagrams destined for print, use 300 DPI and high quality.
