This Privacy Policy explains how OpenConvert ("we", "us", "the Service") handles information when you use the website and tools at openconvert.net. We have tried to write it in plain language. The core idea is simple: the files you process never reach us, and we collect as little as possible.

The short version

Our tools process your files entirely inside your browser. Your images, PDFs, audio, and other files are never uploaded to our servers - we never receive, see, or store them. When you close the tab, the data is gone. The only information involved is the standard, largely anonymous data that any website and its advertising partners process, described in detail below.

Your files are never uploaded

Every tool on OpenConvert runs locally in your browser using technologies such as the Canvas API, the Web Audio API, and WebAssembly. When you compress an image, convert a PDF, or run OCR, the file is read and processed on your own device and the result is generated there. At no point is the file content transmitted to us or to any third party. We have no server that could receive your files, so there is nothing for us to store, read, share, or lose.

Information we do not collect

• We do not upload, receive, store, or process the contents of your files on any server.
• We do not require an account, name, email address, or any personal registration to use the tools.
• We do not build advertising or marketing profiles from the content of your files (we never have it).
• We do not sell personal information.

Information collected automatically

Like virtually all websites, some limited technical information is processed when you visit, in order to operate the site, keep it secure, and keep it free:

• Server and security logs. Our hosting and security provider (Cloudflare) may process standard request data such as your IP address, browser type (user agent), referring page, and timestamps. This is used to deliver the site, prevent abuse, and protect against attacks. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
• Aggregate analytics. We may use privacy-friendly, aggregate analytics (such as Cloudflare Web Analytics) to understand overall usage - for example total page views, country, and device type. This data is anonymous and does not identify you as an individual.

Cookies and advertising

OpenConvert is supported by advertising, which is what keeps the tools free. We use Google AdSense to display ads. This involves cookies and similar technologies operated by Google and its partners:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• Google uses the DoubleClick DART cookie and other identifiers to personalize the ads you see.
• You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices.

To deliver the site we use a small number of reputable third parties, each governed by its own privacy policy:

• Google Fonts - web fonts used for the site's typography.

Children's privacy

OpenConvert is a general-audience utility site and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will address it.

Your rights (GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA)

Because we do not collect or store personal data about you ourselves, there is generally nothing for us to export, correct, or delete on our side. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. International users

The Service is available globally and our providers may process technical data in countries other than your own. By using the Service, you understand that this limited technical data may be processed in those locations under the safeguards described in our providers' policies.

Data security

The site is served over HTTPS, and because your files are processed locally and never transmitted to us, the most sensitive data - your file content - is never exposed in transit or at rest on our side. No method of transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, but keeping your files on your device removes the largest risk entirely.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent version. Significant changes will be reflected here, and your continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
